Well MUA and building unions hit the streets of every Australian city to make a point aboot safety in workplace an ther need ter change the rules in industrial bargaining. So come Sunday, when we gathered in Hyde Park sun did come out, boot breeze were chilly fer Sydney. There not as many folk turned oot fer this May Day march as might be expected with the federal election looming. In the low thousands and less than last year.

MUA were represented mostly by the veterans boot on the march led in chants by a wee slip of a girl, who looked like she was still at primary school; with whale lungs an a bellow ter rattle windas in shops as we rumbled by. Breed these little reeds tough in wharfie families.
There were a strong internationalist theme this year with Iranian, Kurd and Turkish communists at the forefront - good to see the Turks and Kurds marching side by side. On the march, there were some usual responses from those who felt their shopping were being interfered with. Aye, still a lot of folk who think unions are evil or only fit fer museum. Not paying attention ter gig economy, casualisation, erosion of work-place rights.
Its been a long election campaign fer union folk who have been turning out ter door knock or talk over phone ter voters...but more of that later.
